The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office (JPSO) is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant to support our financial operations. This position plays a key role in transaction processing, reconciliations, ledger maintenance, and ensuring accurate financial reporting within a multi-fund accounting environment at one of the largest sheriff’s offices in the state.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the ability to produce consistent and accurate work products, and a willingness to collaborate in a team-based environment.

Key Responsibilities
Typical duties include, but are not limited to:

Maintaining the general ledger and related sub-ledgers for accurate financial reporting

Performing bank reconciliations, matching transactions, identifying variances, and resolving discrepancies
-
Posting journal entries
-
Reviewing daily deposits, coding, and supporting documentation
-
Preparing audit schedules and conducting analytical reviews to identify unexpected variances
-
Managing online payment systems and ensuring proper posting of transactions
-
Creating trial balances, detailed general ledgers, and account inquiries
-
Analyzing financial data for accuracy, reasonableness, and completeness
-
Ensuring documentation uploaded to software systems meets agency requirements
-
Creating and modifying spreadsheets and schedules in Excel for agency use and audit preparation
Minimum Requirements
-
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related business field
-
Minimum of 2 years of full-time accounting experience
-
Strong understanding of GAAP

Proficiency in accounting software systems and Microsoft Excel

Strong numerical skills and attention to detail
-
Ability to analyze financial data and produce accurate reports

Excellent organizational and communication skills

Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Salary Range
The salary for this position ranges up to a maximum of $50,400, commensurate with work experience, internships, professional certifications, technical skills, proficiency, education, and other factors.
