The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting applications for the position of Sales Tax Field Collector, assigned to the Field Representatives Division within the Bureau of Revenue and Taxation.

Position Summary

The Sales Tax Field Collector is responsible for conducting field collection and enforcement activities related to delinquent local sales taxes. This position works directly with taxpayers to provide guidance on tax notices, payment arrangements, and compliance with applicable parish tax regulations. The role also supports administrative operations and performs related duties as assigned to ensure professional and efficient service to the public.

Duties and Responsibilities

May include, but are not limited to:
• Conduct field visits to businesses regarding delinquent sales tax accounts
• Assist taxpayers in understanding tax notices, compliance requirements, and payment options
• Maintain accurate documentation and records related to collection activities
• Coordinate with administrative staff regarding case status and account updates
• Prepare reports and correspondence related to collection activities
• Communicate professionally with taxpayers, business owners, and the general public
• Utilize computers and standard office equipment to maintain records and process documentation
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Must have graduated from an accredited high school or possess a GED equivalent
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Working knowledge of general office practices, including typing, filing, and computer use
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions when necessary
• Ability to work occasional overtime as operational needs require

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform essential job functions, including standing, walking, bending, and reaching
• Adequate coordination, strength, vision, hearing, and verbal communication abilities
• Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to approximately 20 pounds
